Stephani Johnson-Norwood

Stephani Johnson-Norwood serves as Councilwoman for District 2 in Prichard, Alabama. She is the Vice President of the Prichard City Council and works tirelessly with her constituents to find solutions to community problems She is also a retired RN, a former Director of Nursing, Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, and Home Health Business Owner.

In the throes of a heart attack triggered by Covid-19, Stephani answered God’s call to serve by running for public office. She retired from nursing and was elected as the District 2 Councilwoman by a landslide victory in 2020. Since taking office, she has worked to fulfill campaign promises and create forward progress by addressing the major complaints and concerns of District 2 citizens to improve the district and city. Some of her achievements are:

· Repaving many streets, filling potholes, and improving drainage

· Organizing over 25 Community Clean-ups and working side by side with citizens to clean up District 2.

· Partnering with Public Works and Community Leaders to create a Litter & Beautification Team, to remove litter, keep right of ways cut, and improve garbage and trash service.

· Appointing active Block Captains to monitor and report issues to the Councilwoman, helping District 2 to have the lowest number of Public Safety Calls in the City.

· Completing, for District 2 and the City, a major Lighting and Beautification project on Wasson Ave, a major entryway into the City of Prichard.

· Partnered with County Commissioner Ludgood to upgrade and beautify the Bike and Walking Trail, adding Fitness Lots, Benches, Shrubbery and more.

· Leading the effort to improve and revamp the Water Board Appointment process, and contributing to operation issues to improve the Water Works& Sewer Board (PWWSS).

· Working on legislation to support and increase affordable housing, stop illegal large truck parking in residential areas, attract businesses to the city and more

· Spearheading the City of Prichard’s Suicide Prevention Campaign to address the causes that have made suicide the second leading cause of death in the 10-14 age group, nearing epidemic proportions.

Stephani’s philosophy, instilled in her by her mother as a young child is: “Leave It Better Than You Found It”

Stephani is a member of the Gloria Johnson Federated Women’s Club, The Jack and Jill Associates, The Sirens, and The Buffalo Soldiers. She attends Mt Hebron Christian Ministries. She is married to Jesse Norwood and is the proud mother of three children, Jessica, Brandon and Justin. Her hobbies include playing Pickleball, Scrabble, Word Feud, reading, and baking.
